From Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May 2026, eight players from the 2026 World Cup qualifying protocol were on the agenda. Hull, coached by our own Sergej Jakirović, achieved a big result and reached the Championship play-off final without the injured Amir Hadžiahmetović. One more step remains before entry into the world’s strongest league. Amar Dedić played the full match in Benfica’s draw that has put their Champions League place next season at risk. Zlomislić and Radeljić were beaten by Dinamo in the Croatian Cup final, while Armin Gigović recorded two assists for Young Boys in an 11-goal thriller. The individual player reports follow.
Monday, 11 May
- Amar Dedić — Benfica – Braga 2:2 (Liga Portugal, matchday 33). The right-back played the full match in Benfica’s draw with Braga and was booked in the 87th minute. The hosts took the lead early in the second half through Rafa Silva in the 46th minute. The visitors equalised just two minutes later through Victor. Near the end, in the 88th minute, Braga went 1:2 ahead through Gorby and looked close to victory. Benfica, however, won a penalty in stoppage time that Pavlidis converted for the final 2:2. With this draw Benfica dropped to third on 77 points, while Sporting won their match and moved into second on 79. Despite going much of the season unbeaten, Benfica have put their Champions League place at risk before the final round — largely because alongside 22 wins they have as many as 11 draws.
- Adrian Leon Barišić — Benfica – Braga 2:2 (Liga Portugal, matchday 33). Barišić continues his recovery from injury; his Braga side secured fourth place and Conference League qualification for next season with this draw.
- Amir Hadžiahmetović — Millwall – Hull 0:2 (Championship, England, play-off semi-final, second leg). Without the injured Hadžiahmetović, Hull secured a big win and a place in the play-off final — the most expensive match in the world, worth over £200 million in revenue. After a 0:0 draw in the first leg, Hull won away with second-half goals from Belloumi and Gelhardt. They will face Southampton at Wembley in the final; the winner will play in the Premier League next season. As for Hadžiahmetović, against all expectations he was included on head coach Barbarez’s World Cup squad list. He has promised to be fully ready for the camp as his recovery is going better than expected and surgery will not be needed.

Wednesday, 13 May
- Martin Zlomislić — Dinamo – Rijeka 2:0 (Croatian Cup, final). He kept goal for the full match in the cup final that Rijeka lost to Dinamo. Stojković scored both goals in the second half to give Dinamo victory.
- Stjepan Radeljić — Dinamo – Rijeka 2:0 (Croatian Cup, final). Like Zlomislić, he played the full match for Rijeka. With this win Dinamo secured the domestic double in Croatia.
- Nidal Čelik — Lens – PSG 0:2 (Ligue 1, matchday 29, postponed fixture). He was not in the Lens squad for this match. PSG’s win removed all doubt and secured the French title. Lens are still having a season above expectations despite the defeat — second place in the league is assured, and a cup final against Nice awaits.
- Samed Baždar — Raków – Jagiellonia 0:2 (Ekstraklasa, Poland, matchday 31). He was on the bench for Jagiellonia’s important win that put them in control of second place. Kobayashi and Szmyt scored the goals, with two rounds still to play.
Thursday, 14 May
- Armin Gigović — Thun – Young Boys 3:8 (Super League, Switzerland, matchday 37). In the penultimate round of the Swiss league Young Boys played an incredible match. They demolished title-winners Thun 3:8. Armin Gigović started on the bench and came on in the 62nd minute at 2:4. He finished with two assists — for 2:5 and for the final 3:8. Young Boys stayed sixth and can still overtake Basel ahead of them in the final round.
