On Saturday, 16 May 2026, ten players from the 2026 World Cup qualifying protocol were on the schedule. In the final Bundesliga round it was decided who stays in the elite, who goes to Europe, and who goes down — Haris Tabaković said goodbye to Borussia with a goal but also a worrying ankle injury; Ermedin Demirović secured Champions League football with Stuttgart, helped by Hoffenheim’s defeat, while Nikola Vasilj was relegated with St. Pauli. In Liga BiH two matches featured our internationals, Osijek suffered a third defeat in a row, and Pafos played an interesting match in Larnaca. Individual notes for each player follow.

  • Nikola VasiljSt. PauliWolfsburg 1:3 (Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 34). Vasilj probably played his last match for St. Pauli, who were relegated from last place with this defeat. Despite some good saves, he scored an own goal for 1:2 when the momentum shifted. Wolfsburg earned a play-off for survival in the league against the third-placed team from the 2. Bundesliga.
  • Vedad MuftićBorac Banja LukaŽeljezničar 1:0 (Liga BiH, matchday 34). He was on the bench for this match. Second-choice goalkeeper Abdulahović got the chance to play in goal.
  • Ermin BičakčićBorac Banja LukaŽeljezničar 1:0 (Liga BiH, matchday 34). He played the full 90 minutes for Željezničar in defeat to Borac. Borac had already secured the title; Željo will fight for fifth place with Široki Brijeg in the last two rounds. Both teams are on 41 points, with Željezničar ahead on goal difference.
  • Nail OmerovićGoricaOsijek 2:0 (HNL, matchday 35). Osijek suffered a third straight defeat to Gorica; Omerović played a solid match but was goalless again. Gorica’s goals came from Bogojević and Erceg in the 5th and 12th minutes. Fortunately for Osijek, Vukovar also lost this round, so survival in the league is assured.
  • Ivan BašićOkzhetpesFC Astana 1:0 (Premier League, Kazakhstan, matchday 10). Astana lost their second match in the last three away at Okzhetpes. The hosts’ winner came from Lototskyi in first-half stoppage time. Ivan Bašić was sent off in the 80th minute and had to leave the pitch early.
  • Denis HuseinbašićBayernKöln 5:1 (Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 34). Bayern celebrated the title in style with a convincing win over Köln. Huseinbašić was not in the squad again and will probably change clubs next season. Köln finished the season 14th.
  • Ivan ŠunjićAEK LarnacaPafos 2:2 (Cyprus League, matchday 35). He played 73 minutes in Pafos’s draw in Larnaca. AEK’s goals were scored by Bosnia and Herzegovina internationals Riad Bajić in the 22nd minute and Hrvoje Miličević from the penalty spot in the 90+3rd minute. Pafos’s scorers were Pepe in the 31st minute and Odefalk in the 88th. Pafos will finish the season fourth and host APOEL in the final round. Before the end of the season they will also play the cup final against Apollon.
  • Luka MenaloSarajevoŠiroki Brijeg 2:2 (Liga BiH, matchday 34). He played 76 minutes in Sarajevo’s draw with Široki Brijeg. He did not get on the scoresheet.
  • Ermedin DemirovićEintracht FrankfurtStuttgart 2:2 (Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 34). Stuttgart showed good football in this match and led 2:0 at half-time through Andres and Nartey. In the second half, however, Eintracht won two penalties that Burkardt converted to take a point. Ermedin Demirović was substituted in the 86th minute after picking up a yellow card twenty minutes earlier. He ended the Bundesliga season with 12 goals and 3 assists in only 25 matches. The point was enough for Stuttgart to finish fourth and secure the Champions League next season, as Hoffenheim were beaten convincingly in Mönchengladbach. They can make the season even better on 23 May when they play the cup final against Bayern.
  • Haris TabakovićB. MönchengladbachHoffenheim 4:0 (Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 34). Haris Tabaković said goodbye to Borussia with one phenomenal performance. He scored in the 23rd minute for 2:0; another goal was ruled out for a marginal offside. He was booked in the 40th minute. The hosts finished the season 12th, while Hoffenheim narrowly missed the Champions League — fifth place, a point behind Stuttgart, means the Europa League next season. Tabaković is returning to Hoffenheim from his loan, where he is under contract; we will see whether more lucrative offers and a move elsewhere materialise. Tabaković played the season of his life with 13 goals and 2 assists in the Bundesliga. The bad news is that he had to go off in the 74th minute with an ankle injury. He will have further tests during the week, and we hope his World Cup involvement is not at risk.
