On Saturday, 9 May 2026, ten players from the 2026 World Cup qualifying protocol were on the schedule, and the day belonged to Ermedin Demirović — named man of the match in Stuttgart's important win over Bayer, extending his strong scoring run in the Bundesliga. The Turkish league heads into a tense finale where we are following several of our players. In Germany, Edin Džeko came on for the closing minutes, while Haris Tabaković could not help Gladbach due to injury. Other notable outings: Ivan Bašić played the full match for Astana, Luka Menalo in Sarajevo's win that secures Europe, and Samed Baždar in a stoppage-time finish that keeps Jagiellonia in the thick of the fight for European spots in Poland.
- Nihad Mujakić — Göztepe – Gaziantep 2:1 (Süper Lig, Turkey, matchday 33). He did not play for Gaziantep because of injury in the defeat to Göztepe.
- Nikola Katić — Nürnberg – Schalke 3:0 (2. Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 33). Although he had returned to training, he did not feature in the loss to Nürnberg. Schalke had already secured promotion to the Bundesliga the round before, so they may have been slightly below their usual level after the celebrations.
- Haris Hajradinović — Gençlerbirliği – Kasımpaşa 3:2 (Süper Lig, Turkey, matchday 33). Hajradinović remains out of the Kasımpaşa squad with an injury that will also rule him out of the World Cup. Kasımpaşa led 0:2 but allowed the home side to turn the game around and missed the chance to secure survival. Before the final round they are 14th, one point ahead of Gençlerbirliği and three ahead of Antalyaspor in 16th, the relegation place. They have the worse head-to-head against both sides if level on points, so on the last day they must stay ahead of at least one of these teams.
- Dario Šarić — Galatasaray – Antalyaspor 4:2 (Süper Lig, Turkey, matchday 33). He went off in the 23rd minute with an injury at 0:0 in the defeat to Galatasaray, who had sealed the Turkish title the round before. Antalyaspor go into the final round 16th and in the drop zone; against Kocaelispor they will need points for survival and hope someone above them slips up.
- Ivan Bašić — FC Astana – Kyzylzhar 2:1 (Premier League, Kazakhstan, matchday 9). He played the full 90 minutes in Astana's win over Kyzylzhar. Astana fell behind to Pertsukh's goal in the 47th minute but turned it around through Vorogovskiy and Bartolec in the 54th and 58th. After nine rounds Astana are fourth in Kazakhstan.
- Edin Džeko — Nürnberg – Schalke 3:0 (2. Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 33). He played the last 20 minutes for Schalke in the defeat to Nürnberg.
- Luka Menalo — Rudar Prijedor – Sarajevo 2:4 (Premijer liga BiH, matchday 33). He played until the 87th minute for Sarajevo away in Prijedor when Mehmedović replaced him. With this win Sarajevo secured third place and European football next season.
- Ermedin Demirović — Stuttgart – Bayer Leverkusen 3:1 (Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 33). Demirović continued his excellent form in a hugely important game for Stuttgart. They beat Bayer 3:1 and, a round before the end, climbed back to fourth, the Champions League zone. It started badly: Bayer scored in the first minute through García. In the 5th minute Demirović equalised after a neat combination with Nartey. Before half-time, from a cross, Demirović was fouled in the box and the hosts won a penalty; Mittelstadt converted for 2:1. Undav sealed the 3:1 in the 58th minute. Demirović played the full match and was named the best player. He now has 12 league goals this season and has scored in at least three games in a row. Stuttgart are fourth on 61 points, level with fifth-placed Hoffenheim but ahead on goal difference. Bayer drop to sixth with 58 points. Stuttgart finish the league against Eintracht, then face Bayern in the cup final — the whole season comes down to those two games.
- Haris Tabaković — Augsburg – Borussia Mönchengladbach 3:1 (Bundesliga, Germany, matchday 33). He did not play for Gladbach because of a minor injury picked up in training before the match. His side were well below their best in a 3:1 defeat. Little wonder they missed Haris up front: before this round he had scored 32% of his team's goals this season, the highest share of any player in the league.
- Samed Baždar — Jagiellonia – Pogoń Szczecin 3:2 (Ekstraklasa, Poland, matchday 32). He came on for Jagiellonia in the 82nd minute at 2:1. Pogoń levelled at 2:2 shortly after through Agger. The vital home win was sealed by Vital in the first minute of stoppage time. After this round Jagiellonia are second in Poland on 49 points, level with Raków and Górnik. Katowice and Zagłębie are one point behind, so the last three rounds will be a big fight for European places. Leaders Lech have 56 points with a game in hand and look close to the title.
